Tiny Tums

Tiny Tums are a visual teaching aid for midwives, lactation consultants, childbirth educators and other health professionals aiming to help new mothers understand about the size of a newborn baby’s stomach in the first days following the birth. This is a clever way to demonstrate why babies need to be fed little and often. Ideal for breastfeeding classes or other prenatal education programs.

This visual clearly shows that on:

• Day one: The baby’s stomach is about the size of a marble holding around 5 to 7mls of milk
• Day three: The baby’s stomach expands to about the size of a shooter marble and holds around 25mls of milk
• Day ten: The baby’s stomach is the size of a golf ball and holds around 45 to 60mls of milk.
