Positions for Softening the Breast Chart forms part of our unique range of products to support midwives, childbirth educators, doulas and other health professionals in educating woman and their families about birth, breastfeeding and parenting.
This chart shows a simple technique to help a baby attached to the breasts if a women’s breasts are engorged. Sometimes a woman experiences engorgement – where her breasts become overfull, hard and painful. As a result, her nipples can flatten, making it more difficult to attach to the breast. This is most common three to five days after a baby’s birth.
The clear illustrations show three different positions for softening the breast.
Content is based on the original work of K. Jean Cotterman, RN, IBCLC. and the images are based on the work of Kyle Cotterman.
