We’ve been asked repeatedly how many times can the perineal suture model be sutured. So our director Jane Palmer thought she’d do a test. Using two packets of suture material – Jane sutured one model six times. This video shows the test and a close-up of the perineal suture model after being sutured six times.

Jane was very impressed with how the model stood up to being repeatedly sutured. While we can’t guarantee it until we do further testing – but we estimate it should be able to withstand being sutured at least 18 times. Jane’s technique for each complete suturing was by repairing the perineal wound in three layers (vaginal wall, perineal muscle, perineal skin, and subcutaneous tissue) using the suture 2/0 Vicryl.
