Mother and Baby DVD is in two parts and has recently been re-formatted. The first film (16 minutes) begins with a brief historical note explaining how women in the past often did not breastfeed and the impact this may have when supporting women who are breastfeeding in today’s world, especially in relation to conflicting advice.
The film then shows a consultation between Sue Cox, Lactation Consultant, and a new mother who plans to breastfeed. The baby is shown finding the nipple immediately after birth (a planned caesarean) and later the “correct attachment” is explained as the mother feeds her new baby.
The bonus film (19 minutes), explains what new parents can expect from their baby, day by day, in the first week of life, including their feeding and sleeping patterns, bowel movements and general behaviours. The first film is especially useful for parent education programs and the second can also be used for staff training.
