This film of a completely natural birth beautifully illustrates how instinctive women can be when given complete freedom. In the first chapter, the mother explains her approach to pregnancy and birth and we see her preparing through gentle exercise and walking.
The second chapter covers the first part of the labour, and we witness the strengthening contractions and the mother’s responses to the occipito-posterior position of her baby, as she manages the hard, uncomfortable work her body is doing. She is attended by two midwives, her partner and friends, who all provide unobtrusive support, both at home and then in hospital. The third chapter covers the birth and is filmed from behind, as the mother kneels in a lunging position on the floor. Chapter four includes the arrival of the placenta and also the stitching of a tear.
